Women Conserving the Florida Keys, Susan NugentWomen Conserving the Florida Keys

by Susan Nugent

"The fascinating adventures of eleven unique women who in their own way helped save the Florida Keys that were threatened with overdevelopment and ecological destruction." --Tom Hambright, Monroe County Historian

"Herein are stories of eleven strong women -- thoughtful, committed, and determined—who changed their corner of the world--the Florida Keys—for the far better." --Barry Stieglitz, Deputy Chief of the Division of Conservation Planning and Policy for the National Wildlife Refuge System

"Bravo! It is a good thing that the hard work and dedication of these women will be captured for all to read and remember." --Jon Andrew, Chief of the National Wildlife Refuges for the Southeast Region

"The heroines of Women Conserving the Florida Keys are among my conservation heroes. . . . Susan Nugent's thorough research and engaging narrative bring their back-stories and the details of their triumphs and tribulations into focus for the first time." --Chris Bergh, Director, The Nature Conservancy, Florida Keys Program

"Nugent has charted a powerful confluence of person and place. . . . The paths of activism these women pursue demonstrate that . . . the elemental bond between human and home need not devolve into territorial conflict, plunder of resources, and destruction of the nature around us." --Stephanie Voss, Actor/Producer/Researcher
