Views From Rosemary HillViews from Rosemary Hill

by Helen Goransson

Views from Rosemary Hill chronicles the history of the region from before the 1600s to 2010. A history, a mystery and a love story, the focus is on the family of Ralph Bartlett. He was a Dartmouth-educated attorney who grew up in Eliot in the 1800s. His story runs parallel with the story of a present-day couple, Emily and Niel, who settle on the Bartlett family farm in Eliot. We learn of Bartlett's unique ties with the young couple, as well as important Maine families, such as the Shapleighs, Pepperells, Heards, Raitts, Frosts, and Farmers, and his romance with the daughter of world-renowned violinist Ole Bull. Enjoy over 100 historical images.

Readers' Comments

"A delight to read! The combination of ghostly stories and the historical transition from native Americans through colonists to present day families is intriguing."
- Dennis Lentz, President, Eliot Historical Society

"Goransson deftly weaves together the histories of two families, separated by more than a century, who lived in the same house near Maine's southern coastline. It's an eerie coincidence that's a true story. Like Josephine Tey's classic The Daughter of Time Goransson's book pulls together threads that explore the critical importance of historic places in transcending time."
- Kennedy Smith, former director, National Main Street Center, National Trust for Historic Preservation
