Ghana, an African Portrait Revisited

Dear Reader...

"Welcome to Ghana through the magical photographs of a magical country.
"Africa's best-kept tourism secret is being gently exposed with such art, that hopefully will tempt you to visit and see for yourself.
"Should your introduction to the book be while you are in Ghana then you have a bundle of memories in your hand."

With over thirty years of experience, Peter E. Randall is one of New Hampshire's best known editorial photographers. He is the author of fourteen books, nine of which feature his photograhs. New Hampshire Four Seasons (1979) was the first published book of New Hampshire color photograhs. He has also published photo essays on Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Newburyport, Salem, and Marblehead, Massachusetts, as well as two volumes on the Isles of Shoals. His most recent books are New Hampshire Living Landscape, a collection of his panoramic photographs of New Hampshire (1996), and New Hampshire: Then and Now, eighty sets of historical and contemporary photographs of the Granite State from 1840 to 2005 (2006).

Peter is publishing a new photography book on Ghana in 2007. Please see www.ghanavisit.org for more info.

Most of his work has been devoted to New Hampshire, the Isles of Shoals, Maine, and nearby areas. He has also photographed in the American Southwest, Ghana, Togo, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Guatemala, and Spain. His editorial photographs have been used by the United Nations, and regional and national magazines and books.

Recently Peter has been making fine art Iris prints from the panoramic images in New Hampshire A Living Landscape. Called giclee prints, these images are unique digital photographs. The original image is a transparency made with a Linhof 6 x 17 panorama camera. The image is then digitally scanned into a computer, and output on a high-tech Iris ink jet printer which sprays one million drops of ink per second from each of four nozzles onto a fine, imported, watercolor paper. The resulting print has a painterly quality while at the same time being very sharp with brilliant color.

Since the panorama camera has 3 to 1 size ratio, the resulting images are horizontal in shape. While nearly any size can be made, a 10" x 30" print seems to be an ideal size for display.
